Apr 30, 2017Chico Velo Wildflower CenturyChico, CAThe Wildflower has grown steadily over the years to 4,000 participants. About 3,000 riders take to the hills (Wildcat 125 or 100, and Wildflower 100 or 65), about 900 ride the Flatflowers (60, 30 or 12 mile) and over 200 young cyclists ride the Childflower 12 on the bike path to Durham and participate in the Butte Bike Coalition Bike Skills Rodeo. All the rides aim to satisfy the century rider's three biggest priorities – challenge, scenery, and food! Our routes are designed to offer 'just enough' challenge to any level of cyclist on our best rural roads lush with springtime beauty. Your rest stops are loaded with plenty of fresh baked goodies (like java, banana-walnut and lemon-poppyseed breads and raspberry and apricot granola bars), fresh fruits, salty snacks, energy bars and drinks, and each ride offers a lunch spread that accommodates any dietary constraints. And then there's the traditional rider dinner at the finish!530-343-8356

Jun 17, 2017Terrible Two-Santa Rosa Cycling ClubSebastopol, CAThe route was updated in 2016, on the occasion of rerouting the course to stay out of Napa County. Since the new course description was first made public in March, several experienced TT vets have test ridden variations on the new section, collecting Strava data and subjective impressions. Based on their findings, we have subsequently modified the course to soften the challenge slightly. In spite of replacing the big climb over Trinity with smaller climbs—and in spite of the new course having less elevation gain than the old course—it appears that the new, all-Sonoma section is going to be a bit harder and take more time than the traditional route through Napa County. All else being equal, we're predicting that the new course will take between 15 and 30 minutes longer than the old course. This was not our goal, but these are the roads the real world is giving us.

Jul 29, 2017Santa Cruz Mountains ChallengeSanta Cruz, CASanta Cruz Mountains Challenge has it all; a course that is diversely beautiful and as challenging as it comes, while you are amply supported by enthusiastic volunteers offering yummy food. What is this well-organized ride missing?...the hefty entry fee, huge lines and too-crowded roads you’ll find at equally as challenging events such as The Death Ride. If you have the gumption to take on the steep climbs through tranquil redwood forests, screaming descents to the gorgeous California coastline, all on a course that is as tough as it is stunning, Santa Cruz Mountains Challenge will then go at the top of your list of rides you were the most pleased you were able to actually finish.
